Tribulations hennuyères d’un manuscrit du miroir historial : À propos de trois bifeuillets conservés aux Archives départementales d’Indre-et-Loire

Abstract : A receipt given to the dowager countess of Hainault in September 1439 mentions a manuscript of the Miroir historial beginning with facts about the reign of Charlemagne and coming to an end with the period of Philip IV of France. Research has revealed that this manuscript can be related to three folded folios that are now in Tours, which come from a fourth volume of this French translation by Jean de Vignay of the Speculum historiale. Moreover, this research has led to a reconstruction of the itinerary of this manuscript, from the king’s library, where it was originally held, to its final destination of Château-Renault (Indre-et-Loire department) after being owned successively by Louis VII of Bavaria, the Cabochien Garnot de Saint-Yon, Margaret of Burgundy, Charles of Orléans and his half-brother Jean of Dunois, the famous companion-in-arms of Joan of Arc.
