Automation Challenges of Socio‐technical Systems.

Abstract : Resilience has an important impact on the risk management of human–machine systems (HMS). This chapter introduces the notions of resilience and stability in the technological, human and HMS sense, as well as the notions of stabilizability, together with the driver's potential of action and reaction, called potential of action and reaction. It describes the structure of a stable HMS. The chapter illustrates the statements with experimental results obtained from the LAMIH COR&GEST small‐scale railway platform at the ERGOIA 2011 workshop. The studied HMS includes the human operator, the human–machine interface, the rail transport system, the supervisor and all sensors and auxiliary computers. The supervision module is an essential HMS stabilizing factor due to its role as alert provider. Its operating principle is to compare the sequences of measured data and the sequences obtained by simulation.
