Detecting driver drowsiness in land transport. state of the art

Détecter la somnolence des conducteurs dans le transport terrestre

Résumé

In this paper we present a survey of driver states monitoring methods with a special interest in drowsiness and fatigue states detection. We provide a comprehensive view of the field, previous work and encountered problems, proposed solutions and we give some insights on new research directions. Nowadays, development of driver state detection systems remains an active research topic. However, a real need for more reliable and efficient tools is always present, and these systems must also be unintrusive and acceptable by drivers. For this purpose, a critical discussion on the existing detection systems is carried and an approach to monitor the driver state is proposed
