Modeling and Optimization in Manufacturing by Hydroforming and Stamping

Résumé

Hydroforming and stamping processes are important in several industrial sectors, and the simulation of these processes needs to be continuously enhanced. Since the last recent years, new challenging expectations have arisen regarding a higher level of quality commitment of sheet metal forming parts obtained by deep drawing and hydroforming. The aim of this chapter is to highlight some new advanced numerical techniques for mastering the process parameters in order to control the manufacturability of the final workpiece. Nowadays, the use of advanced numerical optimization algorithms coupled to either explicit dynamic or implicit static nonlinear forming solvers has gained maturity and has allowed the “automatic” design of numerous process parameters to achieve a final workpiece without defects such as wrinkling or fracture. In the first part dedicated to processes simulation, recent advances in the numerical simulation by finite element method for deep drawing and hydroforming of thin metallic sheets, will be covered. The second part covers recent research works in the design and optimization applied in both processes to improve the quality of the final workpiece by identifying “ideal” process parameters.
