Les nouvelles « cultures de conception urbaine » : Esquisse de quelques traits distinctifs

Abstract : Contemporary urban production and management are no longer the matter of politics and professionals of the construction field (decision makers, architects and urban planners, construction companies, etc.). Nor does it concern only the construction of buildings and roads. Faced with current changes and social and urban issues (need for a more participatory democracy, avoidance of urban sprawl, etc.), new « urban design cultures », completely in breaking up with the old pyramidal and spatial ways to do, are emerging, experimenting and, depending on the cases, ritualizing themselves to say, make and live the city of today. This in a way that is meant to be participatory, collaborative, and inclusive, where the contributions of certain disciplinary fields such as communication and design are crucial. Thus, the purpose of this study is to characterize the « how » of the functioning of these new cultures. This by elaborating five distinctive features that are common to them.
