Analyse et modélisation du mouvement de transfert de la personne paraplégique

Abstract : The lateral transfer of a paraplegic person is defined as the movement of access or exit from the Manual Wheelchair (MW). This transfer is known to be traumatic for upper limbs. The biomechanical evaluation of the traumatic character of a movement requires the measurement of kinematic and dynamic characteristics. To our knowledge no experimental platform exists for measuring these characteristics in various material configurations, nor has a study of the components been realized for a support of variable heights. The studies presented here respond to this need. An experiential instrumented platform, adjustable at the level of the hands, buttocks and feet has been conceived, and a measurement campaign has been performed with twelve paraplegics, one tetraplegic and one person without spinal cord injury. Each subject performed three bi-directional lateral transfers with the hand support at three different levels. A humanoid mannequin, which adapts automatically to the subject’s anthropometry, has been used. It has permitted, by the global optimisation of its posture, a kinematic reconstruction of the movements, despite a loss of markers for a long duration. Our work resulted in the validation of the use of the mannequin for estimating articular efforts. The results allowed us, on one hand, to differentiate and interpret the movement of various people for a single material configuration and, on the other hand, of different material configurations for a single person. Having defined the kinematic model a priori, these results are useful for the simulation and the improvement of the conception of the MW and of the environment.
