The representative topography of worn hot rolling mill cylinders

Abstract : In this paper, a method is proposed to extract the most representative surface topography from n surfaces. A criterion is proposed that allows rejecting irrelevant topographical maps. Then, this methodology is applied on the hot rolling process, on replicas of industrial surfaces. These analyses have shown the major difference between ICDP and HSS roll behavior in terms of topography. Carbides oxidation observations correlates lab studies from bibliography. We confirm that this methodology is relevant to industrial investigations, especially on phenomena requiring non-destructive protocol
